Practical Tools / Gone by the Wayside
Back in Maryland we had a small local phone book just for our town that was super handy any time we needed services that we didn't already have a vendor for. Or, more likely the case, as we grew older our original vendor had retired and we needed to find a replacement. Mine had ruffled edges, bent corners, post-it notes sticking out of the pages, and circles around or stars next to the names of companies that I had used and liked.
While building my home in Sneads Ferry there were so many times, I wished for a local phone book to carry with me and refer to because I drove back and forth (living in Maryland and building in North Carolina) with my feet and heart in two towns a six-hour drive apart.
It was hard to make the best use of my time finding vendors and service providers through Google searches or Facebook (a rabbit hole that can steal hours of your time in one sitting) or word of mouth (due to my limited time in person with people).
Even after moving to Sneads Ferry full-time, I found myself driving to Wilmington or Jacksonville for lack of procuring what I wanted or needed in Sneads Ferry. Everyone told me that's what I'd have to do - drive out of town to find what I want, get anything done, be happy.
Now that I've been here full-time for more than two years, I know nothing could be further from the truth. It's a lovely place to call home - parts of it quiet and quaint other parts bustling and contemporary - all of it undergoing quantum leaps of change.
After being here a while, I find myself fully functioning and satisfied with the services offered here, busy with more fun things to do on any given day than can be done, happily surrounded by people of like mind and spirit to share experiences with. I've learned everything you need is here - You Just Have to Find It
Back to the Future
Whether you're here for the long term, assigned here for a few years, or just passing through on vacation it'd be great to reach out for that little Sneads Ferry white pages to use as a resource. And that's what we've tried to put together for you in the form of the Our Sneads Ferry Provincial Resource Guide. It's not printed - but printable. If you're new to the area it's note-able. If you live here and have guests coming it's shareable. If you're in the real estate or hospitality business a printed version with your label on it would be giftable.
I hope you claim your Resource Guide, print it out and mark it up as much as my old white pages was. And, I hope you find it valuable enough to share with others - in printed form or with a referral to OurSneadsFerry.com so they can get their own copy.
Old Concept / New Format
Sneads Ferry is changing so quickly that both local residents and businesses need that little phone book - but we need it in a different format. And that's what the OSF Online Directory is all about. We can't always keep a physical White Pages phone book with us but we always have our phones in our pockets. The online Directory is a handy carry-able we're passionate about so that's where we will be putting our main focus.
It's a platform for businesses in 28460 & beyond to be under one roof so people can find what they want when they want it. Just because we are an "unincorporated Village of the Township of Stump Sound in Onslow County, on the Crystal Coast of NC" (as described by others) doesn't mean we gift ourselves by coming together and being represented in one place, supporting local business professionals in their endeavors.
In the OSF online Directory we offer a space for the Best of Where to: Live, Work, Shop, Recreate, Worship, Play, and Volunteer - All Under-One-Roof & In One Place. I trust it will be an asset to our families, businesses and communities. I invite you to check it out and use it as you wish.
May All Thrive in the Province,
Dottie
