Bingo ... Sacred?
Chat GPT says: It's just a game - "similar to lotto and often played simultaneously by large groups".
So ... Since when is "bingo" ... sacred?
In Sneads Ferry proceeds from monthly bingo are reverently dedicated by the Sneads Ferry Community Council to sustain the Community Center (126 Park Lane) a structure that was built to serve its residents and one that has been a part of the province and its history for over fifty years.
Traditionally all the income from bingo entries and the kitchen food service go to the Center. But in 2026 the Council decided to share each Bingo night's fundraising opportunity by dedicating the kitchen to other local charities or non-profits so they could profit from and promote awareness for their endeavors.
And, starting in March of 2026 Bingo in Sneads Ferry became a drop off point for CHEW - Children Healthy Eating on Weekends a program that assists children in our community by providing backpacks filled with child-friendly, easy to prepare meals over the weekend. Bingo players who already support CHEW would now have a convenient place to bring their donations.
Bingo becomes sacred when the organizing group shares the event and encourages other local groups with causes to gather, participate and prosper.
Donors & Sponsors
All attendees who come to play monthly Bingo at the Community Center receive a swag bag with everything they need to play and a gift sponsored by a local business. Community Bingo is played for prizes all donated by local businesses eager to participate with the community and support the Center. Attendees and guests also use the event as an avenue for creative expression, donating their own hand-made prizes, gifts, and desserts just to add to the beauty of the evening for everyone to enjoy.
Bingo becomes sacred when local residents and businesses reach out to donate, sponsor and support ... before they are even asked.
Volunteers
Our Sneads Ferry Bingo Crew is committed to monthly Bingo for 2026 saving Bingo dates throughout the year to be sure they are available. They apply themselves zealously to set the room, stuff the bags, assist the kitchen, greet the attendees, acknowledge the donors and sponsors, run the games, and clean up after everyone else is heading home for the night. For one day a month they give their complete attention to creating a successful Bingo where attendees have fun, donors and sponsors feel appreciated, and the event is profitable for the Center.
When a small group of volunteers is this devoted to a purpose and a cause like this ... Bingo is sacred.
Attendees
Attendees at Community Bingo come to enjoy one another's company and to have fun playing together - more than for winning the games. We've had groups of women celebrating ladies' night ... coworkers sharing an evening of comradery and families out for a night of playfulness. We've had four generations of family sit at a Bingo table and create cherished memories just basking in the presence of one another.
Our Bingo gives one grandchild a reason to pick her grandmother up and take her out for a shared activity ... a regular way to spend time together and something they both can look forward to. Some of the attendees come religiously to catch up with their community, to talk, to play, and to cheer one another on.
Bingo becomes sacred when attendees come happy, leave happy, and hold a reverence and respect for one another throughout the night - even when there's only "one winner per game".
