Discovery
When I was building my home in Sneads Ferry the sales rep for my plumbing company told me that one of the things she loved about living in Sneads Ferry was that the churches all work together to serve the community.
I saw that in action the first time I attended the Annual Blessing of the Fleet in which our various pastors - some on the dock and some in the vessels - offered prayers and blessings for the ships and the fishermen for the upcoming shrimp season.
Later I learned, based on the reports from SFCC Board Member, Joshua Brown, also Pastor of Pillar Church that the pastors get together with one another to share news. But I never knew until this past January how committed our Sneads Ferry pastors and their churches are to working and supporting one another's efforts.
In my mind, our churches are the first place that people seek to visit when relocating to Sneads Ferry in order to find a sense of community, groundedness, family, and support. And, when OSF began announcing its soft launch in January I wanted all the contact information for our churches to be correct in the online directory and in the printable Resource Guide. So, I requested to meet with the Pastors to introduce OSF and verify their information. They graciously invited me to attend their upcoming weekly meeting. Weekly Meeting ... That's Commitment!
Commitment
I attended their meeting and saw how they cooperate with one another but still didn't fully understand how committed they are to supporting each other's endeavors because (as I said, we're in soft launch mode) it took a while to get a handle on our own OSF email system and when I did finally figure it out, I realized Pastor Steve had been including me in the Pastor's weekly recaps! There were several emails from the Pastor's group that I had to catch up on: Announcements, Events, Prayer Requests, Reach Out Programs, etc. The way our pastors share information about one other's missions and projects with their congregations, support one another's endeavors, align their schedules to work with one another, cooperate to hold multi congregation events, unite to celebrate together, and pray for one another is unlike anything I've seen before.
Example
They are a fine example of living Cesar Chavez quoted thoughts: “We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community… Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” Our Pastors have the wellbeing of our whole community at heart and how they can best be served in their sights.
The Pastors work humbly out of sincerity for our community with no marketing strategy, no logo, no need for identity for the group. OSF will post their traditionally combined efforts like Easter Sunrise Service, Blessing of the Fleet, Community Revival, and Halloween Family celebrations on our Events Page with a temporary icon - until we can replace it when their official flyer or advertisement for each event is made available.
We will include any appropriate news from our churches in our monthly Connections newsletter. And, we'll keep the churches information updated in the Online Directory and the printable Resource Guide as best as possible so you can find your own sense of community and feeling of home right here in Sneads Ferry starting with our churches.
May All Thrive in the Province,
Dottie
